Located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, Etymotic Research is an engineering-driven research, development and manufacturing company. The name "Etymotic" (pronounced "et-im-oh-tik.") means "true to the ear."
Etymotic produced the first noise-isolating high-fidelity in-ear earphone, the ER-4, in 1991. This technology subsequently became the basis of all in-ear earphones and in-ear monitors worldwide, and created an entire new category of consumer electronics. The ER-4 earphones are still produced and channel-balanced to within 1 dB in Etymotic's labs in the US.
Together as a team, Etymotic Research's audio engineers, audiologists and musicians have over 100 patents issued and pending. In addition, a number of Etymotic's 60 employees are themselves accomplished musicians. These technical and musical accomplishments are the source of Etymotic Research's success.
